The firm

Tidewater Sciences was formed to do one thing: give buyers of medical devices, diagnostics, laboratory equipment, and life-science consumables an independent read on whether a product performs the way its manufacturer says it does. The name reflects the work rather than a founding story: a tidewater is where the measurable and the changeable meet, which is roughly the position the firm occupies between a manufacturer's claims and a buyer's decision.

We are a small firm by design. The evaluation work described on the services page depends on careful reading of primary documents and direct manufacturer contact, not on scale, and we would rather take on fewer engagements and do each one properly than build a large intake pipeline we cannot service to the same standard.

Independence

Tidewater Sciences does not distribute, warehouse, ship, or take title to any product we evaluate. We do not accept commissions, referral fees, or any form of compensation from manufacturers whose products we review, and we do not have equity or ownership ties to any manufacturer in a category we cover. Our fee is agreed with the client at the start of an engagement and does not change based on which product ends up on the shortlist, or whether any product does.

Where a client asks us to evaluate a product from a manufacturer we have worked with on a prior engagement for a different client, we disclose that relationship before the work begins. Where a genuine conflict exists, such as an active engagement working directly for a manufacturer whose product would be under review, we decline the evaluation rather than manage around the conflict.

USVI registration

Tidewater Sciences LLC is organized as a limited liability company in the United States Virgin Islands, a territory of the United States. In practical terms, that means the company operates under a U.S. legal and corporate framework while being based in a jurisdiction that is geographically separate from the mainland United States. For buyers working across borders, and often across time zones spanning Asia, Europe, and the Americas within a single evaluation engagement, that combination gives the firm a stable, English-language, U.S. legal footing without the assumption of a mainland-only or single-region operating base.

How we staff the work

Evaluation work of the kind described on the services page draws on several distinct disciplines, and we structure engagements to bring the right one to bear on each part of the file. Reading a diagnostic's analytical validation study calls for clinical laboratory science and biostatistics literacy: understanding what a sensitivity or specificity figure actually rests on, and where a study design can flatter a result. Reviewing a manufacturer's quality management system calls for familiarity with how design controls, risk management, and corrective action processes are documented in a mature quality system, and what gaps in that documentation typically indicate. Mapping a product's regulatory pathway calls for working knowledge of how device and diagnostic classification actually functions across the jurisdictions a buyer is likely to import into.

We are not going to claim a headcount or a roster of credentials we do not yet have a track record to back up. What we will say plainly is that every evaluation is built around the specific technical and clinical questions the product category raises, brought to the file rather than assumed from a template.

What we are not

We are not a distributor, an importer, a freight forwarder, or a customs broker, and we do not perform any of those functions for a client. We are not a regulatory agent of record and do not file registrations on a client's behalf. We are not a testing laboratory; we review the evidence a manufacturer or a third-party laboratory has already generated, rather than generating new test data ourselves. And we are not, at this stage, a firm with a completed track record to point to; we are asking prospective clients to evaluate us the way we evaluate manufacturers, on the coherence and rigor of the method, not on a claimed history.
